At Alzheimer's Australia ACT, we are privileged to have a strong team of volunteers who play a major role in providing support and assistance to people living with dementia and their families and carers.
Our organisation was formed on the initiative of community members and from the beginning volunteers have played a major role in helping to provide support to persons living with dementia, their families and carers.
Volunteering is recognised as an opportunity for people to share their experience and expertise, while at the same time gain a sense of achievement and participation, and gaining a new skill or interest. Many of our volunteers express the desire to give something back to the community, or return something for the support they themselves have received.
Volunteers assist and work along side paid staff in most areas of the organisation. They are valued as co-workers and are welcomed as part of the team. Volunteers work in the community and also in our Kaleen office.
How can I contribute?
We welcome people from all backgrounds and endeavour to provide volunteering opportunities that compliment the skills and interests of the volunteer. That is, you will be doing something that you enjoy while making a significant contribution to our organisation and the people whom we service.
All our volunteers receive introductory training to introduce the essential skills required by every volunteer involved with our organisation. Ongoing training is also conducted throughout the year.
